Yi Home Camera Outdoor Case V3 – Weatherproof Indoor – Outdoor Mount

I was given a heads up that there is now a company that is selling an outdoor case that is specifically for the Yi Home cameras…So, I bought one off Amazon to check it out and I’ll do a quick unboxing, setting it up with my Yi Home camera and we will check out some video footage while the camera is in the outdoor case.

The box says it is a wall mounted bracket for Yi Home cameras…dust and water resistant outdoor case.

It actually looks and designed like the Yi outdoor camera…

On the side it says it is a perfect fit for the Yi Home camera..
Easy to install
Clear design
Dust proof
height and angle adjustment
rain proof

So, let’s open up the box…

Seems like their is some assembly required.

We have here the installation instructions

We have a small phillips screw driver

which means we have some small screws

We have the clear lens cover which is in a protective film

We have some foam gaskets…

Mounting screws and plastic anchors.

Then, we have the mounting bracket which is the traditional ball joint so it has a good range of adjustments.
Just loosen the collar nut to adjust and tighten it to lock the position in place.
Then, we have the main enclosure and it comes off in 2 pieces. On the bottom are the hole for the USB power cable and also vent holes and probably also the holes for the mic and speaker. Just by looking at this, this enclosure is not waterproof…mostly just to protect your camera from the outside elements.

On the back is where the base can be screwed on.

Time to install my Yi home 1080p camera…I just have to push it out of the base. Please note guys that this outdoor case is only for the Yi home camera both 1080p and the 720p. It is not for the Yi Home camera 2 or their dome cameras.

First thing that we need to do is to install the foam ring around the lens on the camera. Just peel off the center disk first so that you can easily peel the ring.

Maker sure that the ring is centered and is not covering the lens. I also think that this foam ring to be a little bit wider so that it is easier to install and not get deformed easily.

Then we need to remove the plastic ring and push it in from the front of the camera. You will hear a pop sound when it is fully seated.

We have the clear plastic front cover which we need to peel off the protective film before positioning it… in front of the enclosure.

We just then need to slide the camera making sure the plastic ring slides in the track on the bottom half of the case. Also make sure that the USB slot is pointed downwards and can be accesed from the bottom hole.

We also have to make sure that the foam ring didn’t get deformed which happened in my case. So, I have to redo the process several times until I got the foam ring centered.

We then need to put in the top cover and also I am noticing that the clear plastic front smudges and scratches pretty easy, so you have to be careful when removing and repositioning the camera.

Then, we need to screw in the top and bottom using the small screws and the philips screw driver that was included in the kit but before that, we need to plug in the micro USB cable.

Then screw the camera to the mount and tigthen the disk to lock the camera in place. Loosen the mount to position the camera and tighten it to secure the position. You can install the camera to the ceiling or a wall just by playing with the adjustments.

Let’s check out some footage and especially night footage with the outdoor case on…
It looks good…night footage has no glare…as long as you install the foam ring correctly, you should be able to get good night footage.

At to the 2 way audio…it works as good as without the case.

Alright guys, that’s it… so there is now an outdoor case that is specifically made for the Yi Home camera…I just have a couple of suggestions for the manufacturer though…First off, the clear plastic piece for the front of the camera gets scratched pretty easily…second.. the foam ring needs to be a little bit wider. I have to do a trial and error just to get it right and keep the shape of the foam piece and for it not to block the camera lens…I have to remove mine at least 4 times… which goes back to the clear plastic piece..it gets smudged and easily scratched everytime you handle it.

Then I saw the foam piece for the mount which is wider and is a perfect size for the camera…

With this, I can easily slide the clear piece without distorting the shape of the foam ring…

Overall, this is a pretty good buy if you already have a Yi home camera and just want to have an outdoor case to protect it from the elements…it is not water proof but at least this is better than having no case at all when installing outside. If you don’t have a Yi home camera and thinking of buying one and planning to install it outside..it is better to get the yi outdoor camera from the get go even if it is a little bit pricier.
