Well, I finally got a hold of the Yi dome camera…the 1080p version – white in color that was released early this year. I also have a full review of the 720p version . Today, I’m just going to unbox this 1080p version and share to you guys the differences and if there is anything new that will warrant the extra 20 dollars difference in price.

Checking the outside box, it is the same packaging as the 720p version. As I can see here on the side, there are a couple of extra features that I can see. There is the baby crying detection, and a 360 degree panoramic snapshot.

So, we are going to check it and test it out in a little bit.

Inside the box we have the usual culprits…we have the manual or the setup guide, the warranty information and some advertising of their other cameras.

We have the camera itself which looks exactly as the 720p version except for a few things. It has a silver colored trim. The placement of the slots are the same. It is exactly the same body as their other version.

We have the charging brick, screws, mounting plate and the power cord.

I also noticed too the camera lens is bigger..ok lets put in the micro SD card and turn on this puppy.

Let’s open up the app and add this camera. Click on the plus sign on upper right, pick the 1080p dome version. Type in the wifi credentials. Make sure guys that your Wifi is on 2.4 GHz and not the 5. It will generate a QR code that the camera needs to read. Wow, it connected quicker than the 720 model. Boom, it is installed. I’m pretty impressed that installed pretty quick.

Let’s check out the footage here. See there is the panoramic option. Looks pretty good. I just need to install it where my original camera is and we can compare the video feeds.

Before I swap this out, I need to show you guys the difference of the 2 cameras..which I think is only the silver sleeve and accent on the new one and also a little bit bigger camera lens but everything is the same.

Now, there is this panoramic button that will take a 360 degrees panoramic picture that it took me a while to find where it is saved. I finally found it on the alert section of the app which it will have its separate panorama tab on top. when you click on it, then you will have an option to save it to the app’s album plus also on your phone. It is a pretty clear snap shot 360 degrees as you can see here. This is a pretty neat option. And here you can see that it was also saved on my phone’s album just like when you save video footage.

So, now let’s compare video footage between and 720P and the new 1080P cameras.

So, now we are going to test the baby crying detection on this camera. I’m turning it off and turning it back on. Now, guys we don’t have a baby so what I’m going to do is to pull up You Tube and search for baby crying sound…turn up the volume and let’s see if I will get an alert. I’ll get my phone as close as possible to the camera. My camera is setup it the ceiling 12 feet high.

So I tried several type of baby cries but I didn’t get any alerts and I even tried a manly cry…but still none…I left the cry detection on all day and I did eventually received an alert just because of talking or the TV is on…

I went to the Yi website and searched about this option and found out that supposedly they use an audio identification technology that can identify the mood of the voice. So, it is not fair for me to say that this option doesn’t work because I don’t have a real baby to test it out. I guess you guys with babies can try it and see if it really works.

In conclusion, the Yi 1080p dome camera is worth the extra 20 dollars. It has all the features of the 720p version plus the clearer footage, the 360 degree panoramic snapshot and the baby crying detection options. Also, setting up the camera was pretty fast.
