Today, I received the Yi 1080P home camera. Now, I have the 720P version of this which I did a full review a few months back and I’ll include the link to that video on the description below. This camera is worth the extra 20 dollars difference from the 720P version. Now, my plan is to install this outside and because this is not an outdoor camera, I also bought an outdoor case that is used for the nestcam or drop cam which I’ll show you later on. Let’s do the unboxing first.
This camera is high definition at 1080P and has a 112 degree wide angle lens. It has a night vision that doesn’t light up red at night like the other cameras, so the night vision of this camera is pretty discreet.
Opening up we can see the camera itself which is already attached to the base stand. We have the usual quick setup manual, warrranty info, the power brick and the micro USB cable. The base by the way can be twisted off and will show screw mounting holes if you want to install this camera in the ceiling or to a wall. You can just easily twist it back in. At the back we have the slot for the micro SD card and the reset button.
Setting it up is pretty easy and quick. Download the app which I already have, Just plug it in and wait for the camera to say the prompts. Open up the app and click the plus button on the upper right to add the camera. Choose the Yi 1080p Home camera which is here at the bottom and don’t confuse it with the 720P version which is only labeled Yi home camera and is on top.
Click on “I heard waiting to connect” Type in your wifi information and click “connect to wifi” which will generate a QR code which you will let the camera read. And just wait for the prompts until you get your camera connected.
Click on the camera to see the Live View. Also, it will prompt you to update the firmware.
Alright, now it is time for comparison footage between the 720P and the 1080P. This is the footage from my 720P with lights on and with daylight outside. Now, this is from the 1080P and as you can see that it is brighter and clearer. Now, side by side comparison.
Now, this one is at night with infrared on and you can see with the 720P that the footage is blurry. And now with the 1080P which is much sharper and clearer.
If we put the videos side by side you can see the difference.
These are the cameras side by side which you will not see any difference until you see the labeling. Alright, next week, I’ll show you guys the video and the review of the outdoor case where I’ll be putting in this camera and installing it outside, so stay tuned.
