I’ll be showing you night vision footage comparison between the following wifi security cameras…I just installed all the cameras in a row mostly so that it will be easy for me to set up one camera to the other but on testing, all other cameras were either turned off or removed so that it will not skew with the footage especially their LED lights.

So we have the Ring spotlight cams which I’ll show footage from my wired one and also the battery one… I did this to show the enhanced night vision from the wired cam and the regular black and white from the battery…I was surprised though when I did the test …well, I’ll just show you all later on…

I also tested the Yi outdoor cam, the Reolink Argus 2, Arlo Pro 2, Blink XT, and the Nest outdoor cam…So, I have a sampling of almost all big named brands of WiFi cameras.

I did a couple of tests… one is just the regular black and white night vision and the other one is with my LED floodlight turned on lighting up my backyard with 2000 lumens and 5000-Kelvin its color temp… this LED floodlight only uses up 21 watts…so you can actually turn this on every night without making a dent to your electric bill… You will see later on the difference between regular black and white night vision and color night vision which I’ve been preaching since last year…

I placed cones as markers in my backyard from 5, 10, 20 and 30 feet. I’ll be coming from the right side so as to make sure I trigger the motion sensor and will stop at these distances so that you will be able to see the difference on the clarity between these cameras.

So, let’s start..First is the Ring wired spotlight cam..this is with the enhanced night vision. This is from 5 feet. Comment down below if your camera has been updated already.
10 feet, I heard that Ring hasn’t fully released this update yet. 20 feet. If you have a mix of color like the yellow lights in this footage, then you got the update and 30 feet..
As you can see here…there is a tunnel vision effect where the outer edges are darker…the Ring camera has a 140 degrees field of view.

Now, with the Yi outdoor camera..
five feet, Yi only has 110 degree field of view.
10 feet… You will notice the glare in my neighbor’s lights
From 20 feet and 30 feet.

Now, we have the Reolink Argus 2..from 5 feet…
The Argus has a 130-degree field of view
10 feet.. this is also what they call the starlight night vision which is way clearer than the other cameras…
20 feet…The only issue is that it quickly stops recording even if the sensitivity is set to high. You can be in front of the camera and if you are not moving enough, the Argus will stop recording..so what you will see are short clips. This needs to be addressed by them and I’ll talk more about it when I do a comparison video with the other cameras.

As you can see with the Argus, and the footage is pretty clear for night vision anyways.

Now, this is the Arlo 2…
5 feet… notice there is no glare…
10 feet.. also you will see the lights in the background doesn’t glare as much…
20 feet and 30 feet.

Now, this is Blink XT 5 feet with its 1 little LED lighting up the area…
10 feet…20 feet and going to 30 feet. I’m positive that this camera or all the motion activated cameras will not trigger from a person moving at 30 feet but this is just to give you an idea what it looks like.

Then we have the Nest Outdoor cam..5 feet…My nest is set to a default of medium quality..10 feet. It is a bit grainy but this is how it is setup so as not to use too much bandwidth because it records 24/7…20 feet… I’ll probably retest this in another video with the highest quality setting and 30 feet. Nest warrants a separate video on its own because of the issues with their Hello doorbell which they acknowledged but really hasn’t addressed with a lot of their customers complaining.

Lastly, I’m going to show you the regular night vision of my Ring spotlight cam battery with the spotlights purposely turned off. In a real-life scenario, the lights will automatically turn on when it senses motion so this will usually not happen but just to show you guys.

Now, for the color night vision test..I’ll be turning on my floodlight. I’ve noticed not all cameras will have an option to turn off night vision like the Ring which is one of my main complaints last year and they eventually released or I don’t know if it is officially released…their enhanced night vision update…If you were following my channel then I made several videos about this which I will link in the description down below.

Even with the update, there is still no option to manually turn on or off the night vision but it is just automatic. Also with Ring security cameras, they already have spotlights or floodlights which originally doesn’t trigger to turn off the night vision and the footage was still black and white. But with the update, it now turns to full color.

With the Reolink Argus 2, you can toggle between Color, Black and White and Auto from the main screen menu.

With the Yi, it is in the main settings but with 1 caveat though, it says turn off night vision IR light…which it does… but depending on the surrounding ambient lighting, it will still be black and white just like in my testing and I have to use the flashlight technique to turn it to full color.

With Blink, it is also in the settings under IR illuminator..off.. on and auto
BTW in the footage earlier the intensity was in medium and even if I set it to low, the glare is still there at 5 feet.

With Arlo Pro 2, it is also in the video settings… toggle switch night vision on or off.

And with the Nest, it is in the settings.. night vision off, auto and always on…

On with the Test…

First Ring Wired spotlight cam and this with only its own spotlights on…the floodlight is off… as you can see, it will start off with mixed colors because the IR lights are still on…it will eventually turn off turning the footage in full color. That’s 20 feet and 30 feet.

This time with both spotlights and also the floodlights turned on…
10 feet…
20 feet…
and 30 feet…

Now, with the Yi…remember, I have to shine a flashlight on the camera to trick it to turn off night vision and turn on full color…

10 feet.. so depending in your lighting, this might not work for you unless there is enough light in the camera, if not, it will still be black and white.

30 feet.

Reolink Argus 2… You will notice the glare even up to 10 feet on this one, so the floodlight might be an overkill if you want to use the Argus..

But look at 20 feet and 30 feet… it is pretty clear…

Then, we have the Nest Outdoor cam… 5 feet.., 10 feet..20 feet and 30 feet.

Then, we have the Blink XT…at 5 feet..my face is unrecognizable because of the glare… 10 feet…20 feet.. and 30 feet…

Now, I’ll show you my Ring spotlight cam battery version and the floodlights off..just its own spotlights… remember Ring stated that the battery version will not have the color night vision update…, well, they updated it..comment down below guys if your battery version of the spotlight is now in full color… Also, notice the choppiness and lag..it is still there.

Now, the Arlo Pro 2… from 5 feet…10 feet..20 feet and 30 feet

Now, this is the redo of the Nest outdoor cam with the quality set to high… there is no difference as compared to medium setting especially on the night vision… the video file doubled though…
So, at 20 and 30 feet, if I stand still, you will barely notice me.

With my floodlights on though, the details are a bit sharper…5 feet…10 feet, 20 feet and 30 feet…
