Today, I’m going to show you the LED video/camera light that I recently bought from Amazon. With this light, I don’t have to go and find a well lit place to do my videos. I also prefer not using the flash for pictures especially stuff that I sell on Ebay or online so this light will help me take better quality and more professional looking photos.
This light is the Mcoplus Pro Series130 LED video light that is dimmable and has different power options.
It can run with 6 AA batteries, AC power 6-9 volts (not included). It can also run with camera rechargeable batteries like the Canon LP-E6; Nikon EN-EL15, Panasonic CGR-D16S and Sony NP-FH70, NP-FM55H; NP-F550. For me, I’ll just use 6 AA batteries and I also have a 9 volt adpater lying around that I can use.
So, let’s open it up. We have the manual, we have some filter..here an amber and a white one; a hot shoe/tripod adapter, here are some battery adapters from different manufacturers, an extension adapter if you want to connect another light, and the light itself.
I like the size, not too small and not too big. At the back are the power/battery slots, we have the on and off and dimmer rotary switch.
Here, we have the battery compartment to put the double A’s. It needs 6 of them. Then you have the plug for the AC adapter.
Now, let’s put the batteries in and let’s see how bright this LED light is. Thats pretty bright, now this is the reason that I like to have a light that is dimmable because you want to hit the sweet spot for your camera in which it is not too dark but it is not too bright also that it drowns out the background. If you are filming dark areas and around 15-20 feet out, then you can bump up the light like so.
Now, this light comes with 2 diffuser filters..there is the white one and an orange one. The LEDs emit white light as you can see here with the white diffuser attached. Now switching it to the orange one, you will see that it matches the soft white lights around the house. Depending on your needs and like mine if I shoot video inside the house, then I’ll prefer the orange diffuser on so that it matches the background lights.
Ok let’s check out how this LED light works. Now this area is just illuminated with a couple of soft white CFL bulbs. Turning on you will see the room got brighter. You just need to adjust your light depending on your needs. Turn it up to its brightest will make your camera compensate and will just drown out the background.
Another test here with just my hallway lights on..this time the room light off..then with only the LED light on. You can see that it lights up the area pretty good. For comparison…the light off.
Now sometimes the light might be too white for your needs. Then you can put in the orange filter. Then you will see it matches the soft yellow white light of the house.
Now, this is my setup for the light. I have this C bracket that I also bought from amazon. I’ll include the link to this in the description below….this is where I can attach my Go Pro clone camera or my point and shoot Canon so that I don’t have to have a separate tripod for the light. It works pretty good if you are moving around just like in the sample videos I showed you earlier.
You need to hook up this adapter so that you can put the light on a tripod or the hotshoe of your SLR. Just slide it in and tighten the knob. Then you can adjust the angle by loosening and tightening this knob. You can also use this light when taking still pictures and is way better than using the flash.
Now if you want to check the battery, just press and hold this button and it will show you the battery level. The batteries I placed are already used and you can see that the level is down a bit. When the light is on, then the level is lower that when it is off.
