DIY Dumbbell Weight Rack Hack – Wheeled

Happy New Year…so, are you all working on your new year’s resolution? I’m pretty sure to be more active and healthier is one of them, right?
Well, I have a little hack for you guys, especially the ones that have weight sets and dumbells around the house and like to exercise in their living rooms because it has a bigger space to workout on.

I have all these weights in my living room right now and it is an eye sore if I just leave it here and it will be a workout in itself if I carry it 2 at a time from the garage. I’ll be tired already before I can start my workout. I want to make something that I can put the weights in and is also movable so that I can move it and store it in a closet whenever I am done working out.

First, I bought a weight rack to at least stack and store my weights. Putting them on the weight rack will make them look more organized but it is still an eye sore if it is going to be left here in the living room. BTW, I’ll include the links on the products that I used here in the description down below. With this weight rack, it looks flimsy but it is pretty sturdy when you put your dumbells on it.

So, at first, I was planning to design and make a wooden weight rack cart so that I can move around the weights and store them when it is not being used. Then, I found this in my shed…a furniture dolly. Most home owners should have this already somewhere in their house. If not, then you all need to have it. This dolly have saved my back multiple times when moving stuff around the house. Most of the time though, they are just stored in the attic or in the storage and not being used. This is an excellent platform to put my weight rack and my weights. They normally have a 1000 lb. capacity, so they can sustain the weight.

It is also the perfect size to hold the weight rack. I just need to add a piece of wood to cover up the open area so that I can put my smaller weights on the bottom of the rack. I also found a scrap piece of wood that will fit in the opening. I have to screw it in from the bottom so that it will be flushed. Wow, perfect fit. Just letting you know guys, I haven’t cut the wood to fit the hole and this one is pretty much spot on.

I just need to screw it in with 6 screws and it should be ready.
Make sure the screws you use is just a long enough so that it will not go through the other side but not too short that it will not hold the wood properly. Remember, you are going to put some weights on it.

There you have it. I can still use it to move furniture and if not in use then this will be my cart for my weight rack. Just making use of something…to do something else..

I just need to put on the rack and I think I don’t need to screw the rack in to the dolly because the weight of the weights themselves will prevent it from slipping or sliding out. You are more than welcome to screw it in if you want to.

Now, time to load up the weights.
I’ll put the smaller weights that doesn’t fit in the rack on the bottom.
There you have it…in total I have around 300 lb. weights here which the dolly could easily support.

I can easily push it around on the tile floor but I think it will be a tad harder on a carpet.

So, after I’m done with my workout, then I can just push the weight cart and store it in our coat closet which we usually store our exercise stuff. That fits perfectly.
