Arlo Pro and Pro 2 Accessories – Wasserstein A Cheaper Alternative

You remember one complaint I have with my Arlo Pro 2’s are the lack of accessories that comes with it when I bought it. For example, one of the Arlo Pro 2’s selling point is that they can be plugged in giving you all other features like the 3 second look back and activity zones…but the 2 camera kit only comes with 1 power cable and a power adapter that is also used as the charger…

Now, how about you get the 4 camera kit…well, you will still only get 1 power adapter and 1 power cable. Now, this kit costs 800 dollars. I guess, Arlo wants you to only use 1 camera to use the extra features that the Arlo Pro 2 have. And what if your other camera needs recharging..well, you need to unplug the plugged in camera to charge the other cameras….

So, when I checked their 6 camera kit which is an 1100 dollar system, it only comes with 2 power cables and adapters… wow… I know the reason why they did this though….to get their customers to buy their accessories.

Here is another one…you will get the wall mounts for however many cameras you have purchased…. but the keyword here is “wall mounts”. They can only be used in a wall or any vertical surface. The design and shape of the Arlo’s will not let you install it in a ceiling if you use these mounts.

So, if you want to install your Arlo Pro 2’s in a ceiling, then you need a ceiling mount which is only 25 dollars each

.. or you can get the outdoor security mount which is a bargain price for $19.99…BTW, I’m being sarcastic. You already coughed out a lot of money to buy their cameras, but you then realized that you will need another type of mounts or you will definitely need extra power and charging cables.

Just to be clear guys, the Arlo camera themselves are pretty decent security cameras. My only gripe is that they are overpriced as compared to other cameras in their category and adding to that is their accessories are also way overpriced.

Wasserstein a company that sells a lot of accessories as well as their own smart home products contacted me recently to check out accessories that they offer for the Arlo Pro cameras. They sent me a box of goodies and I’ll be comparing their prices to Arlo’s prices and they might be a good alternative than buying Arlo’s more expensive stuff.

First, is their outdoor security mount which is from dropcessories but Wasserstein are selling them. Remember, Arlo’s sells their brand for $20 bucks a pop…With these, your get 3 for 15 dollars.. that is 5 dollars per mount. They are also metal and looks almost identical to the Arlo’s. These mounts can be installed either in a wall or a ceiling and secures your camera with a threaded screw as compared to the magnetic mount that comes with the Arlos. These are good mounts especially outdoors and if you want a more secure way to install the cameras.

Next, are the camera skins…silicone covers that will help protect and also change the color of the camera so as to coordinate with your house making it blend in. I got a 3 pack with different colors… here we have a brown and a grey earlier and a black one.

Installing is pretty easy. Just slide the camera in from the back making sure the hole is at the bottom which is the cut out for the speaker.

It has a built in visor or shade to prevent sun glare but also not too wide that it will cause infrared light reflections at night. The magnetic area and the screw mount is uncovered at the back.

Wasserstein also sent me a camouflage ghillie skin if you want to hide the camera in a tree/ shrubs or any greenery. Just push the camera from the front. You might need to sharpee the white edges of the arlo pro 2 to hide it more. The Arlo Pro on the other hand already has black edges.

You can then install it in a tree branch using wasserstein’s Quad mount for screwless mounting which I don’t have but will link in the description down below.

The next accessory we have here is the twist mount that is integrated with the silicone skin. This has a flexible goose neck that you can use to secure the camera to any surface that it can go around with.

Putting in the camera is the same way like you are putting in the silicone skin. Just slide the camera in from the back. You can then use the flexible goose neck to wrap and secure the camera without drilling holes. I use a tree branch in this example but you can wrap it in a 2×2, a pipe or anything that you can wrap the flexible goose neck around.

A new product that Wasserstein has released is the theft proof lock. Now, it is a play of words but this should be named theft resistant lock because nothing is theft proof…anyways, it will increase the security for your camera and act as an extra protection in the event the camera falls off from the mount..especially when you use the magnetic mounts.

It comes with a plastic band for the camera, and 2 lock rings that you can use with the outdoor security mounts or the magnetic ball ceiling or table mounts from Arlo. I’ll show you later on that you can also use this if you use the magnetic wall mount that comes with the camera.

So, it comes with the chain and several machine screws.

Just slide in the plastic band like so and put in the machine screw but before tightening, make sure that one end of the chain is hooked on the screw.

You can also hook up the locking ring before installing it in the mount because getting the chain in the machine screw needs some trial and error.

Slide the lock ring on the mount and screw it in tight. Make sure that the ring doesn’t slide off, so tighter the better.

Screw in the Arlo on the mount and you are done.

You can also use the wall mount that comes with the camera. Put on the plastic band and chain on the camera and instead of the lock ring, just use a small screw to screw in the other end of the chain to the wall.

In any event that the camera gets knocked off the magnetic base, the chain will prevent it from falling down on the ground. As I said before it is not theft proof but at least it is a form of security.

Another accessory we have here is a weatherproof micro USB charging cable if you want to plug in your Arlo Pro camera. This is weatherproof so it is designed to be used outside. It needs to be plugged in on the power adapter that came with your Arlo’s or any compatible power adapter. Please note that you cannot just use a regular 1.0 amp power adapter. The Arlo Pro’s need at least 1.8-2.0 amps.

It is a pretty snug fit so you will need to push it in with a decent amount of force.

The last Arlo Pro accessory that I’m going to show you guys is the Arlo pro battery charging station. Arlo sells theirs for 60 dollars and this one from Wasserstein is 30 bucks. With this one, I don’t know about the longevity but it works when I tested it.

Just push in the battery and a blinking blue light will show that it is charging and when it turns to solid blue, then the battery is fully charged.
