Ring Spotlight Cam & Ring Floodlight Camera – Night Vision Issues – Can Ring Fix It?

To all Ring Spotlight and Floodlight Camera owners…turn your blurry night vision footage to full color…I’ll show you how I did it…so, let’s check it out.

I’ve been checking out night footage from my Ring Spotlight camera and as I said before..it is blurry, grainy and washed out…

Then, I’ve been seeing TV ads of Ring’s Floodlight camera and I noticed something…well aside from being a clear high def footage…it is in color…they have a little disclaimer stating it is simulated image though..which they should.

You will also see it on their website…and even on the boxes of their cameras…

Then I realized…why would Ring setup the camera’s night vision to turn on when the floodlight or the spotlight are on?..Would it just defeat the purpose of the infrared and night vision and I think that is the reason for the footage to be washed out…

So, the lifehackster in me decided to test the camera while disabling the night vision and see if the footage is better.

I didn’t have to open up the camera to do the test…and I’ll show it to you later on…but for now..here’s the result…

First, this is the footage with infrared on and spotlights are off…just remember guys that in a real life scenario… when the camera detects motion it will start recording and also turn on the lights..plus it will notify you. So, the only thing that I can think of for having a footage at night without the lights on will be when you do a live view…As you can see here, even on this situation..lights off and infrared are on, the footage is still blurry…

So, now we will turn on the lights. With the spotlights on, footage is still blurry and a bit brighter..walking around I just kinda blended in with the color of the wall…You will not be able to tell what color of clothes I have.

Now, I will turn off night vision with my highly sophisticated laser device…just making sure it will turn on.. I think I need new batteries…just kidding guys…just use a good ol flashlight…and shine it on the camera or if you know where the sensor is which is mostly in the front face of the camera…the camera will think it is daytime and will turn off night vision..

There you have it…night vision off and spotlights are on…looks a little bit like the TV commercial now..

You will now be able to tell the color of my shirt that I’m wearing..and you can easily identify me….well, this little hack is just short term because the camera will reset to night vision when it realizes that is really night time…

So, just shine the camera again…test it out guys with your spotlight and flood light cameras and comment below if it is better than the night vision mode…

Now, I have to test this out with my flood light camera..so this one with infrared and night vision on…you will see the Christmas lights I have are on and glowing but you cannot tell what color they are…

Now, with the floodlights on…got a bit clearer especially in the drive way…I can see here that my Floodlight camera is actually better as compared to the spotlight cam as to night vision…I’m not ghosting in here or blending in…there is contrast in my shirt and the drive way…

Now, let’s turn off night vision…

There…you can see colors….it is clearer and not as blurry…Alright guys…what’s your take on this? What I want and I don’t know if Ring can do this with a firmware update is that to have an option or a toggle switch on the app to turn off night vision…or better yet…when the floodlights or the spotlights are triggered and are on..then for the camera to turn off night vision…night vision is still needed for live viewing..I’ll be sharing this video to Ring and I want you all to share it too so that Ring will listen and do an update…I think this is how these Spotlight cams and the floodlight cameras need to work anyways as you can see on their ads…

That’s it guys..hopefully you like the video..leave your comments down below…try it out with your Floodlight and Spotlight Cameras and see which one you like better..and tell Ring about it..
