Ring Indoor Cam vs Wyze Cam

Today, we are going to compare the new Ring indoor cam to the Wyze cam and see which indoor camera would be a better fit inside your home.

We will be comparing these 2 wifi cameras on pricing, features, video and audio quality. There are a handful of reasons why you need a camera inside your house. All of you will agree that you need it to monitor your house when nobody is there and at night when everybody is asleep. Some of you will want to monitor and use the talk feature to talk to your family when you are out of the house or in a business trip. Some of you might want to check in with your elderly parents or monitor the baby or pet sitter. I’m saying this because indoor cameras needs to be more versatile than your outdoor cameras. I use both of these cameras inside my house but they are setup differently.

Let’s start with pricing.
The Ring indoor cam is the cheapest WiFi camera that Ring sells to date. It is priced at 60 dollars.. while the Wyze cam is I still think the cheapest 1080p camera around. You can get one delivered to your door at 26 bucks.

Both cameras record in 1080p at 15 fps.
The Wyze cam has a 110° FOV while the Ring indoor has a 115° horizontal and 60 degrees vertical FOV.

Both cameras have 2 way audio…

Both of these camera have a small footprint.. the wyze cam measures 2.2 inches in height, and 1.97 inches in depth and width.. while the indoor cam measures 2.95 inches in height and 1.81 inches in diameter..

Both cameras needs to be plugged in and connects to a 2.4 GHz Wifi…

Ring records motion events only to the cloud which you will need a subscription. Subscription starts at 3 bucks a month or 30 dollars a year… or with a protect plus plan of 10 bucks a month or 100 dollars a year for unlimited Ring cameras. With the Wyze cam…you don’t need a subscription and it also records to the cloud.. motion and sound events only 12 second clips though and stores it for 14 days and this is Free… But, you can also stick a micro SD card at the bottom and now you can record the full motion event from start to finish and even can record 24/7 in the micro SD card…

So, as to motion detection, both uses camera based detection.. with AI on the Wyze cam which they just recently released person detection…and the Ring uses their algorithm which has been spot on in detecting motion that matters. Let’s check out their motion alert notification speed.

Motion alert notification speed test.

Cool off period test

As to cool off, Ring will notify you again every minute while the motion persists. It does record in 1 minute increments and continues to record until the motion has stopped.

With Wyze Cam, the notification has a “5” minute cool off and if you only rely on the cloud recording, it will only record 12 sec. clips every 5 minutes even if there is continuous motion. But.. if you have set it up with local storage using the micro SD card, in view playback, you will be able to view the whole motion event even before it started which around 40 seconds prior to the motion being detected.. then another 40 seconds after the motion has stopped. BTW, with Ring indoor camera, it also records 3 seconds before the motion has triggered it.

The Ring indoor cam just because it is owned by Amazon, only integrates fully with Amazon Alex-A.. also guys, I am saying Alex-A instead of “ALEXA” so that I will not trigger your Echo devices.. some of you gave me some flack when I did it the last time and I forgot to put a little foot note…anyways, as to the Wyze, it integrates on both Alex-A and Google.

Ok, now here are other features that the Wyze Cam has that the Ring indoor cam doesn’t have aside from local micro SD card recording…

The Wyze cam can record 24/7 – to the micro SD card…
You can also set it to take time lapse footage and I think this is a feature that is under utilized but as I said earlier about if you are wanting to monitor and check your kids, the baby sitter, workers, providers, your elderly parents, you can use this feature to know what happened through out the day. If your house already has your family or people you know, you don’t need to be notified of every motion event and I’m pretty sure you just pause or turn off notifications. You also don’t want to wade on all the recordings.. it will be time consuming.. but if you have set the time lapse with the Wyze..then you can browse a whole days worth of footage in a few minutes and if you want to check a specific time, then you can view it on the ” view playback time line”

Another feature that the Wyze cam has is the sound detection but on top of that, it is also able to know and alert you when your smoke or your carbon monoxide detectors goes off. This is a unique feature of the wyze cams.

As to Ring indoor cam and I think all Ring security cameras except for their doorbells have this… the manually activated siren. So, if you noticed something or somebody is inside your house, then you can sound the siren to scare them off.

The Ring indoor cam can also integrate with the Ring alarm… limited but there is a potential to have more integration in the future. For now, you can set the “linked” devices in the alarms’ base station and you can choose the indoor cam to start recording when the alarm is triggered or when it is on entry delay.

As I said before, I use both cameras inside the house and the Wyze cam with a micro SD card set to record when it detects motion but the alert notifications are turned OFF. On the alarm settings, the smoke and CO alarm notifications turned ON. I only turn ON person and motion detection when we are out of the house for a while especially when we are out of town…

As to the Ring indoor cam, together with the 2nd generation stick up cam wired version they are linked to my Ring alarm and will only record when the the alarm goes into entry delay or when it gets triggered. Record motion and motion alerts are turned OFF. I can still check the camera in live view or use the 2 way audio to talk to my family if I need to.

For family motion triggered events or when I want to know who started the fight between my 2 kids or I forgot where I placed something… then I go to my wyze cam and also my Yi cameras and they are my extra set of eyes.
