Today, I’m just going to give you all an update about the night vision enhancement on the Ring cameras. If you are new to my channel, on November 30th of last year..I uploaded a video showing my Ring cameras’ night vision not really as advertised. It was grainy, blurry and black and white. I’ll include the link to that video on the description down below. A lot of you agreed that Ring’s night vision especially on their security cameras the Spotlights and Floodlights needs to be in color…Ring responded that they will be working on an update. They emailed their customers last week about upcoming enhancements.
Well, Ring got in touch with me and asked me if I can provide feedback on the upcoming firmware update that will include the night vision enhancement and more accuracy on night vision motion detection. Please note guys that they are still beta testing this and there might be some glitches. Also, the update will only be on Ring’s electric powered cameras and not the battery powered ones. So, this update will only apply to Ring’s Floodlight cam, Ring spotlight cameras except for the battery version and the Ring doorbell Pro version. The roll out of the firmware update will be in batches over the next 30-45 days.
As a beta tester, Ring updated my cameras so I can show you guys the first look of the upcoming improvements. There will be no toggle switch or an extra setting that needs to be turned on.
So, let’s check out my floodlight camera before the update….this with the night vision on and the lights are off… then with the lights on…
Now, this is the enhanced night vision with the floodlights off…you will notice that areas with light source will have a tint of color.. Now, with the floodlights on…the footage is in color…it will take a few seconds for the Infrared LEDs to turn off..when it turns off the camera will adjust the colors…turning off the lights will instantly turn on enhanced night vision and the infrared LEDs.

Ring Spotlight Cam (Wired) – amzn.to/2E9bdex
Ring Doorbell Pro – amzn.to/2Ea41yQ
Let’s see if I add myself in the footage…the footage is in color and the purplish tint is because the LEDs are still on…and when it turns off..you will now see me in full color…
Same thing when the lights turn off, the night vision turns on almost immediately which is a good thing…
Here is some side by side comparison…Lights off…lights on…
Now, the camera that started this all…my backyard wired spotlight cam…this is before the update and with the spotlights on…you will see that I’m just greyed out…now, with the enhanced night vision..spotlights on and you will see the purplish tint when the Infrared LEDS are still on…
Side by Side comparison…spotlights off.. and spotlights on…
Lastly, my Ring doorbell Pro…I think this will have the least amount of change and some of you might not even notice the difference…just because it doesn’t have a security light… this footage is before the update…
And now with the enhanced night vision…you will notice just a little tinge of yellow from my porch light on top but it is still basically black and white…
By the way the light that you see in the wall is actually the infrared lights from my Reolink camera that faces the front door.
Now…side by side comparison…
Well, that’s it guys…so just have a little patience..and this night vision enhancement and with a little bit more tweaking by Ring will be rolled out pretty soon. Ring also said that the night motion detection will also be improved. I didn’t check on this because the motion detection on my cameras are already spot on…
