Using a nut, bolt and driver bit as a modified wrench

If you are a “tool guy” then you probably have a tool for everything that you need to do to fix stuff at home or in your car. Well, for me, I have a decent amount of tools but there is always some fixing that you need to do that will need a special tool. I have no problems having an excuse just to buy another tool but most of the “specialized” tools that I have, I only used once or two times and adding the cost of the tool plus the time going to the store just to get it, sometimes it is just not worth it.

Well, one of those special situations that I need a special tool came up one day. It is just sometimes, especially cars, doesn’t have enough space for a tool to maneuver and my screw drivers even the smallest and the shortest one I have will not work and will easily strip the torx head if I will not be able to position it correctly. A metal and rubber gasket is in the way and not unless I have a skinny screw driver,  I will not be able to take off the screw without damaging the torx head.

An idea came up when I was looking at the torx bit and I tried first clamping it with a small adjustable wrench but it keeps falling off and I am not able to put a downward pressure on it so that the bit will be in constant contact with the screw head. Then, I tried using a bolt and a nut and viola!, it worked. Clamping the torx bit using the head of the bolt and the nut worked perfectly and the bolt itself prevents the bit from slipping when I apply a downward pressure. So with a little bit of maneuvering, I was able to easily remove the screw and able to replace and tighten it without problems.
