Yellow headlights? Well, the sun, weather and elements can take a toll on your plastic headlights and when your car is 3 or more years old, the headlights will turn dull and yellow. It is not the yellowing that is the problem but the oxidation which tends to block the light output that the headlights put out. Eventually, you will notice that the lights are dimmer which can be a safety issue when driving at night.

There are a lot of services out there that will buff and brighten up your headlights but the costs range from $20 to $60 dollars. With this “free” hack and with a little bit of elbow grease, you can do it yourself and save some money.

Toothpaste to the rescue…just like you use toothpaste to brush your teeth to remove plaque…you can use the abrasive properties of the toothpaste to buff and remove the yellow oxidation on your headlights. Just place a dab of toothpaste in a clean rag to paper towel and working one section at a time, apply and rub the toothpaste…wipe and buff it off. You will see the dirt and yellow residue is now on your rag or paper towel.

Just with some elbow grease, you can get that old yellowing headlights back to as close as crystal clear and you will see a big difference in the overall look in your car plus you will have more light when driving at night.
