Nest Cam Outdoor Accessories by Wasserstein – Quad Pod, Cube Mount, Covers, Suction Cup Mount

Today, we are going to talk about Nest outdoor cam accessories. Wasserstein has sent me a box of goodies that they make for the nest outdoor cam. Thanks Wasseserstein for letting me check out your products.

Also, I have reviewed my Nest outdoor cam and also had another video comparing it with the Ring Spotlight Cam and I’ll include those links in the description down below.

So, let’s check it out.

First, we have the quad pod mount which you can wrap or hang your camera wherever you want. It comes with a silicone cover that has a quarter inch screw thread at the bottom. This will make your outdoor cam versatile and you can now screw it in the quad pod or also on any other screw in mount.

Now, it is a bit thick piece of silicone and will need some stretching to get the USB plug to go through the hole. It just needs a bit of elbow grease…So, you need to unplug your Nest outdoor cam from the power adapter and thread the USB plug in to the hole of the silicone cover.

After it goes through, just thread the cable and slide the camera in.

Make sure that the speaker holes align with the speaker of the camera. It will need a bit of twisting, pulling and pushing to properly align the cover to the camera.

We will now unbox the quadpod and as you can see, it is flexible and you can mold it in any configuration you want.

You can make it as a stand, hang, or wrap it around something.

The quad pod comes with a quarter inch screw so that you can screw in the Nest camera.

Next, we have the Cube mount..which Wassesrstein is advertising that you can hook up 5 nest outdoor cams with one mount. Personally, I don’t like that idea, putting 200 dollar cameras in one place. I think it is worth looking if you have a pretty big area that you want to monitor and the only power outlet you have is in the middle, then you can mount 2 outdoor cams like in this picture.

To screw this to a wall or ceiling, you need to unscrew the base to the mounting plate by twisting it counter clockwise. It comes with screws and plastic anchors.

Now, let’s install it…

You now have options on how you will install the camera. Please note though that if you put a silicone cover, the magnetic hold of the mount is not going to be as strong.

Next, we have are silicone covers.

We have a grey one here. This is just a simple cover. No screw mount or any other attachments. The silicone is a little bit thinner than the one that has the quarter inch screw attachment.

We have another color… a camo…if you want to hide your camera and try to blend it in with some greenery at your house.

It also includes a silicone sleeve for the magnetic base mount to complete the look.

Next, we have a magnetic suction cup mount.
So, if you want to install the nest outdoor cam near a glass window, you can use this instead of drilling holes in wood or concrete. It uses the magnetic base of the nest cam to secure it in place.

We also have the regular wall mount which is a traditional screw in mount.
It still uses the nest’s magnetic base to attach the camera. You can unscrew the metal piece and now it becomes a regular mount. Nest should have thought of this and have made the metal wall mount that comes with the camera thicker and drilled a quarter inch screw hole. On Nest’s defense though the magnetic mount that they have is a pretty strong magnet for its size and it secures the camera good but you will still be able to move it easily to adjust. As you can see, I could barely pull it out.

You will now have more range of motion for adjusting the camera.

Then we have a suction cup mount but with a silicone skin that has a quarter inch screw hole just like the one that I showed you earlier that is included when you buy the quad pod.

Most of these mounts are interchangeable and with this suction mount, you can also use with other cameras that has the traditional quarter inch screw hole.

Now, I’ll show you how you can install the nest outdoor cam using the suction mount. This mount is a good option if you are in an apartment or renting a house for example and you are not allowed to drill any holes. In my case, I want to monitor my front door and walkway and I’m not really wanting to drill holes in the bricks. I have a glass window though that on top would be a perfect height for the camera to monitor both my front door and the walkway.

Behind the wall in between the door and this window is a power outlet so my plan is to route the wires down and let it pass through the window. A good thing about Nest’s power cable is that its flat, so the window can still be closed and locked and the cable will just mold to the foam seal of the window and will not get damaged.

I’ll be using a cord cover which I bought at Lowes. I’m pretty sure amazon also sells them and I’ll include a link in the description down below. I just need to slide in the cable on the side slit of the cable cover. A good thing about this cover is that it has a mounting tape on the back side. I’ll be securing it in the side of the window frame.

When finished, you will see that the camera is safely secured on top using the suction mount.

Then the power cable goes in the plastic cable cover which is secured with the mounting tape and blends in well with the window frame. It then goes inside the house through the window.

As you can see here, we have a power outlet just behind the wall.
The Nest power cable is flat and the window can be closed without damaging the wire. I coiled the extra cable and plugged the camera in to the wall.

No drilling and screws needed.

The last accessory we have is the twist mount. You just need to put in the outdoor cam just like when you are putting in the silicone cover. You can then coil it to a pipe, railing or to something that it can wrap around into.

In my case, I’ll wrap it around my gutter pipe.

All these accessories are available at Amazon and also at Wasserstein’s website. I’ll link all of them in the description down below.
